Thing 12: Apps#1 Supporting Practice.

Apps? Where to start.  They are a HUGE part of our everyday business, we would be lost without them and that's not even about the Maps app. Some of the apps we use just now are;

  • Calendar - we can keep note of residents and staff birthdays, training days, appointments, home events etc.
  • WhatsApp - currently used as a private group chat facility for all staff (we have a new electronic care management system, CareDocs which has a built in message facility so hopefully we can migrate our staff onto that).
  • JotForm I have started using this recently as a way of sending out surveys to staff. Once I see how effective it is I should be able to use it for relatives and residents as well.

We love to try new apps as well and although I know the SafeMed app has been around for a while I have only just taken an interest in it and can see straight away the benefits it will have for all our staff.
We already have access to medication training through BOOTS but I think the ease of having this app and the benefit of gaining open badges will hopefully spur them along.
From first impression it seems to follow a similar format to another online training system we use so the familiarity will be a bonus.  The fact that it is free is also great and because it is affiliated with the SSSC already, we know that it will be up to date and relevant to us unlike some other apps/systems which are more geared towards English legislation than Scottish.

With any luck the SSSC should see an influx of open badge applications from our staff over the next few weeks.
