Thing 10: Podcasts

I'll be honest, the Podcast boat has left me firmly on the shore.  Hard to find, hard to follow, mostly very poor audio quality and with blogs, YouTube and other media such as Facebook, Instagram etc I don't find them an appealing source in any way shape or form.

The one I chose to listen to is an example of the above faults  https://audioboom.com/posts/1060926-sarah-jane-fair-deal-support-worker also on this link I couldnt see any way of interacting with the podcaster (is this what they're called?), the SSSC link provided ( http://sssclearncast.libsyn.com/benefits-and-uses-of-open-badges )  did have a comments section but there had been no comments left.  Not one.  Now if someone was to go there for information on Open Badges they may well be put off completely.  It sounds as though the caster(?) is in a box.  Compare this to the actual website for Open Badges http://23digital.sssc.uk.com/ and they are worlds apart, the webpage is vibrant and exciting, it makes you want to get a badge, or all the badges, its easy to navigate and follows a straight path where you can easily find the information you are looking for and also provides new information you may not have thought of.

That said,  there is one podcast I listen to regularly.  It has no connection with my working life and provides only an hour or so of comedy and chat about movies ( https://www.smodcast.com/ )  while i am driving home at night, I have tried listening to others but find myself switching off after a while as they are dull and boring and add nothing to the opportunities for learning and developing.  I would, however, consider changing my mind if it meant I couldn't achieve the badge for this part of the #23ThingsDigital but hopefully my informed objections will be enough to answer the requirements.
